What i think this quote means is if you do the right thing like lets say your friends shoplift and you say no and all your friends say lame even though your by yourself its still the right thing and if you joined your friends even though you all did it dont make it right you guys still did something wrong so its better to be alone to choose the right than be with a group of people choosing to do bad stuff.
